Identity, Branding & Logos
What makes a good logo? This is a very subjective question. Think of the logos you know best: eBay, McDonalds, Nike, etc. Some say the best logos should communicate what the company does, but if that's true for Nike (think: speed), it certainly isn't true for eBay or McDonalds. These brands have become recognizable through the strength of the brand itself; the success and money of these companies has made them recognizable. From such logos, however, we learn that a good logo has at least the following elements in common:

1.) It is simple in design, and is therefore easily recognizable at any size.

2.) It is made up of 4 distinct colors or less, but it looks good and doesn't lose its form or appeal when it is displayed in only one color.

3.) It often merely serves to highlight the name of the company (McDonalds) or it may even be the name of the company itself (eBay).
